Biography
Uri Abt
Uri is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School. While there he was the Executive Editor of the Journal of College and University Law—at the time the official journal of NACUA—and was given the Dean Knopp award for his work with the Notre Dame Legal Aid Clinic on behalf of low-income homeowners in foreclosure.
After graduation he joined the New York City Law Department. As an Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Special Federal Litigation Division he handled Section 1983 claims on behalf of the City of New York and its employees. He was given the Division Chief Award in recognition of the quality of his work.
Uri subsequently moved to Chicago to be with his now wife and joined the top litigation boutique Tabet DiVito & Rothstein. He represented businesses and individuals in all manner of commercial litigation alongside some of Chicago’s best attorneys. During his time in Chicago he was recognized as a General Litigation Rising Star by SuperLawyers Magazine twice.
After many wonderful years in Chicago, Uri and his wife (now accompanied by their two children) moved to East Lansing, where they both joined Michigan State University—Uri as part of MSU’s Office of General Counsel. As an Assistant General Counsel, Uri oversaw MSU’s entire litigation portfolio.
Uri is licensed to practice law in Michigan, Illinois, and New York, as well as in the United States District Courts for the Western District of Michigan, the Eastern District of Michigan, the Northern District of Illinois, the Southern District of New York, and the Eastern District of New York.
